Johnson's Fish Shop
About This Spot
Johnson's Fish Shop feels like a quiet, unassuming local hideaway nestled just off a busy highway. As you pull up, the modest storefront hints at a spot where rhythms slow down and genuine Southern hospitality takes center stage. The hum of conversation mixes with the soft sizzle from the kitchen, welcoming travelers and locals alike into a space that’s easygoing but alive with simple pleasures.
Inside, the atmosphere carries a relaxed, almost nostalgic pace—an earnestness that comes from a long-standing commitment to good, honest food made with care. Seating might be modest, but the warm greetings and attentive service fill the room with a sense of familiarity you don’t often find off the beaten path. It’s the kind of place where you’re reminded that dining is more than just a meal; it’s a moment to breathe, connect, and savor something uniquely local.
The experience here unfolds through the rhythms of the kitchen—fish fried fresh as you wait, crispy hushpuppies that draw smiles, and hearty sides that carry the quiet depth of Southern roots without overpowering. There’s a pleasing balance between comfort and craft, where each bite honors tradition but never feels repetitive. For those passing through, this isn’t the usual quick stop but a subtle detour worth making, a pause that refreshes both the travel-weary palate and the spirit.
Whether you arrive seeking a break from the sameness of chain eateries or looking for a welcoming nook to enjoy uncomplicated, well-prepared food, Johnson's offers a low-key authenticity. Here, the day’s pace slows just enough to remind you how good a meal can feel when it’s made with care and enjoyed in company—no rush, just a quietly warm invitation to linger a little longer.

If you are looking for a place to eat while traveling on 95 and are tired of the same interstate fast food joints. Take a short detour at Manning SC, you won't be disappointed. The fish was fried to order and the sides were fresh. Seating is a little limited but we made due.

Fish was fried perfectly. I'm not usually a fan of southern style fish but the taste was pretty good. The cabbage was excellent and was not cooked with any meat. When I visit that area again I will be back for more cabbage. The wait was not long and customer service was good. (I ordered the whiting dinner which came with 3 PCs of fish and 2 sides. I ordered double cabbage).

Visited this place about 1 year ago after my sister's funeral . The fish is excellent! My favorite was the hushpuppies! Good service too . However, my only issue was that the restaurant didn't accept credit or debit cards. ONLY CASH?! Fortunately, my cousin had cash on him.. otherwise highly suggested for great take out food!
